What They're Saying: Cougs loud like thunder

FOLLOWING A HELLISH month of losses, the Cougars let loose in the locker room at Arizona Stadium. Boy, did they ever. That's just one of the things worth noting from the scribes who covered the game. Here's what they're saying....

The door to the visitor's locker room shook like thunder. Cheering, yelling, clapping and singing all blared out the bottom two inches of the door frame. It was the loudest Arizona Stadium got all day. -Daniel Berg, Arizona Daily Star, on WSU's post-game celebration.

Limited as they might be, there's an admirable steeliness with this team now, born of exhausting winter workouts, endless practice reputations and yes, visits to Leach's infamous sand pit. -Bud Withers, Seattle Times

It was as if the Cougars had just won a bowl game. With one more win — against either Utah or Washington in the next two weeks — they can actually do so. -Zach Rosenblatt, Arizona Daily Star

The 24-17 win marked the team's most important victory since taking down the Trojans at the Coliseum on Sept. 7 and is arguably -- considering the circumstances -- the team's most complete win of the season. -Kyle Bonagura, ESPN.com

Despite entering the game with the least amount of rushing yards among FBS schools, Halliday seemed happy to hand the ball off to Caldwell and junior Marcus Mason. And the Wildcats were not ready for it. -Chris Chancellor, Cougfan.com

Though Halliday "only" threw for 319 yards (and two touchdowns), he was clearly the best quarterback on the field – UA's home field I might add. And at his best. -Vince Grippi, Spokesman-Review

With the Cougs having lost their last three games in blowout fashion, and having dropped four of their last five, Halliday and Monroe had special reason to savor a close, hard-fought road victory that could prove pivotal to the Cougars' bowl hopes. -Howie Stalwick, Cougfan.com

The Cougars defense held on for the win in a game that was in doubt until the final second had ticked off the clock. -Jacob Thorpe, Spokesman-Review

Say this for the Cougars, now 5-5 and a win from bowl eligibility: They don't seem to know that they have a lot of flaws. These days, they simply play through them. -Bud Withers, Seattle Times

Fans: We need you!!! Students: We need you!!! Let's pack Martin Stadium on Saturday at 12:30pm as we take on Utah! #GoCougs -WSUCougFB, the official Washington State football twitter account
