The NFL general managers, coaches and scouts won't make their feelings fully known until the draft takes place in May but Bucannon looks to have helped himself in Indianapolis.
NFL.com classified him as a "top performer" in four of the six events he had completed at press time.
Bucannon officially clocked a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash on Tuesday, the second best time of all safeties according to NFL.com, (Terrence Brooks, FSU, 4.42).
In the bench press, Bucannon put up 19 reps with 225 pounds on the bar. That was third among the safeties group, (Brock Vereen, Minnesota, 25.)
"He's got size, he's got four years of high quality production in a BCS conference and he's coming in here, he did 19 reps at (225 pounds) yesterday and he's coming out here and running real well," said NFL Network Analyst Mike Mayock of Bucannon.
Bucannon in the vertical leap posted 36.5 inches, third in the safety group (Mo Alexander, Utah State, 38.)
In the broad jump, Bucannon was second with a 10-5 (125 inches). The top mark amongst safeties was a 10-7 by Vanderbilt's Kenny Ladler.
Bucannon's time in the 3-cone -- 6.96 seconds -- was third best among safeties, (Daniel Sorenson, BYU, 6.47).
He didn't fare as well in the 20-yard shuttle, clocking a 4.26. Not bad, but not great. Bucannon placed eighth here, with the top safety time turned in by Daniel Sorensen of BYU at 3.95.
With the 60-yard shuttle, only a handful of safety times were posted on NFL.com throughout the day and it was unclear if Bucannon participated in the event.
NOTABLE: Esteemed NFL analyst John Clayton, when asked about Bucannon yesterday by Jim Moore of KIRO Radio in Seattle, said "I think he's going to be going a lot higher than people think."
