Cougs catch a break, now go for series win

SOMETIMES WHEN in a slump, especially when it comes to baseball, you just need to catch a break. The Cougs got one, with two out and nobody on and trailing by a run in the ninth on Saturday. And now the Cougs will be going for the series win on Sunday at Arizona.

The Cougs were down to their last man, trailing 5-4 Saturday, when Nick Tanielu reached on an Arizona error. Yale Rosen promptly doubled to put men on at second and third. P.J. Jones then singled in both runners.

The Cougs had the right guys up at the right time. Rosen was 4-for-5. And the game winning hit was Jones' third of the night.

Washington State (5-9, 1-1) and Arizona play the rubber game Sunday at noon. Fans can catch the live stream by clicking here and scrolling down.

Cougar P Ian Hamilton (2-1) recorded the final four outs for the Cougars to earn the victory.

The Cougars took a 3-1 lead in the second inning behind starting pitcher Joe Pistorese but Arizona scored two runs in the third and another in the fourth to take a 4-3 edge. WSU tied the game in the fifth before the Wildcats again went ahead in the seventh, setting up WSU's two-out rally in the ninth.

Tanner Chleborad (0-2, 4.50) is the scheduled Sunday starter.
