Baseball: Here come the Cougs

DON'T LOOK NOW but here come the Cougs. After a horrific start to the baseball season Washington State seems to have hit its stride. On Wednesday, they completed a two game sweep on the road against No. 17 San Diego.

Luke Stratman's RBI-single in the top of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and Washington State held on to defeated the 17th-ranked Toreros (14-6) by the score of 4-3.

On Tuesday, WSU outslugged San Diego 9-7.

Washington State (8-9, 2-1) is now riding a four-game winning streak coming off the series win at Arizona. Three of the four wins have been decided by a run by skipper Donnie Marbut's crew.

On Wednesday, Cougar closer Ian Hamilton gave up a run in the ninth before recording the final out for his sixth save.

Kellen Camus (2-0), the third of five Washington State hurlers in the game, struck out three in two shutout innings and picked up in the victory.

The Cougars, looking to climb above .500, return to Pac-12 play when they open a three-game series at No. 14 UCLA. The first game is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
