As Cougar D goes in 2014, so go Cougs?

SOME IN THE national media have posited Arizona has the top group of receivers in the conference and arguably the nation. Not college football writer Paul Myerberg at USA Today. In his lengthy seasons preview of Washington State, he says the Cougs have the best wide receivers unit in the Pac-12.

But the author is not nearly as bullish on the Cougs' 2014 stop corps.

"And so we hit on the rub: WSU's defense. It's again an issue, pretty much, continuing a trend, and it's hard to take the Cougars' too seriously as a Pac-12 contender until this side of the ball joins the offense at the party," writes Myerberg.

Still, the 2014 season and the Cougars are trending up, up, up, says Myerberg.

"Let's all do ourselves a favor – and by all I mean me, of course – and not doubt whether or not Leach is going to work his magic at WSU. He's going to do just that: Leach and the Cougars greatly exceeded my (2013) preseason expectations, scrapping and clawing for six wins in the deepest, most competitive conference in college football and creating a new standard for annual success – postseason or bust," says the article.
