Cougs' Halliday named to watch list

WASHINGTON STATE quarterback Connor Halliday has been named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Quarterback Trophy watch list, WSU SID said in a release.

Connor Halliday started all 13 games for the Cougars last season, setting a school single-season record with 4,597 passing yards. It was the second-most in Pac-12 Conference history, just shy of OSU's Sean Mannion's mark also set in 2013, (4,662 yards).

The Spokane, Wash. native also set school records for pass completions (449), pass attempts (714) and tied the school record with 34 touchdown passes.

Halliday had nine 300-yard performances, including four 400-yard games. In the New Mexico Bowl, he tied the NCAA Bowl Game record with six touchdown passes.

Halliday, a redshirt-senior, is one of seven Pac-12 quarterbacks included on the 40-member list. The winner will be announced January 14, 2015. Former Cougar safety Deone Bucannon was named the CFPA Elite Defensive Back Trophy last season.

The Cougars open their 2014 season Thursday, Aug. 28 against Rutgers in The Seattle Game at CenturyLink Field.
