Recruiting: Pair of Hawaii OL set WSU visits

THE APPLE CUP is more than six weeks away but Nov. 29 is already circled on the calendar for Kapolei, Hawaii offensive tackle prospect Pesi Savea, who locked in his official visit to the Palouse on Wednesday. Already checking in at a massive 6-7, 310-pounds, Savea said he won’t be making the trip alone.

It was a little over a week ago that Washington State put an offer on the table for Savea.

“I got home from practice and I spoke with Coach Joe Salave’a,” Savea said. “I was actually shocked when I got it. I wasn’t expecting to get an offer from them. I was excited.”

The Hawaiian native added that he’s been hearing from Salave’a since he was a sophomore.

AS FOR HIS VISIT, Savea will indeed head to the Palouse the weekend the Cougs take on the UW Huskies in the 2014 Apple Cup. He’ll make that trip with fellow Kapolei High offensive tackle Viliamu Auwae, who also holds a crimson offer.

“When I spoke with Coach Salave’a, he said he’s excited to see me come out there and meet everyone,” Savea said. “Coach has also offered our other offensive tackle Viliamu Auwae and he’s going to take that trip with me as well. We’re going to both see them take on Washington.”

Savea checks in at 6-7, 310-pounds, while Auwae checks in at 6-6, 275-pounds. Both are being recruiting as offensive tackles by the WSU staff, Savea told Cougfan.com.

Savea holds offers from Boise State, Idaho State and Washington State, while Auwae holds offers from BYU, Nevada and WSU.

SAVEA SAID the Cougs are the program that are showing him the most love right now.

“The most letters I’ve been getting has been from Washington State, he said. “They’re recruiting me the hardest right now. They’re the only visit I have set up right now.”

Savea, who said takes pride in his aggressiveness and playing to the whistle, added he’s looking for one thing in particular when it’s come to his future college.

“I’m just looking for great company that reminds me of home,” he said. “I’m looking for a family environment.”

NOTABLE NOTE: The Cougs also extended an offer to Louisville verbal commit Kareem Orr on Wednesday. The three-star prospect checks in at 6-0, 185-pounds and pledged back in June.
