WSU DEPTH CHART: New starter at MLB

THERE IS A SURPRISE ON the just-released depth chart from Washington State heading into the Arizona game on Saturday -- a new starting middle linebacker.

Peyton Pelluer is now listed as the starter at the MIK on the official depth chart, with Darryl Monroe the No. 2.

Monroe is the Cougs' second-leading tackler on the season, with 53 stops, just two behind Daquawn Brown's 55.

Pelluer has 17 tackles on the season (six solo) and has played in all seven games. He's been more noticeable in recent weeks in rotation. Against Stanford, he was third on the team in tackles with eight.

Pelluer ran with the 1's during Sunday night's practice while Monroe was with the second unit.

Toni Pole remains listed as the starter at nose tackle, as do Sulaiman Hameed at strong safety and Charleston White at corner. Defensive coordinator Mike Breske said after Sunday's practice that Pole and Lemora's absence was about keeping them fresh.

“They’ve had some extra work to do to take care of business, and we will hopefully get them back this week,” Breske said.

White was injured during the Stanford game.
