NFL Cougar Highlights: Week 12

DESPITE A SETBACK to the reigning champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals hold a two-game lead in the NFC West and, at 9-2, share the NFL’s best record with New England. A big contributor to their success this season has been their rookie defender, Deone Bucannon.

The first round draft choice from Washington State, who is listed as a strong safety but has taken the majority of his snaps from the linebackers’ neighborhood, is third on the team with 58 total tackles.

Bucannon added six to that total (3 solo) in the Cardinals’ 19-3 loss to Seattle, including a sack of Seahawk quarterback Russell Wilson (pictured above).

Here’s how the rest of the NFL Cougs performed in week 12:

Husain Abdullah, S, Kansas City, 6th season: Posted five tackles (4 solo) in the Chiefs’ 24-20 loss to Oakland on Thursday.

Jed Collins, FB, Detroit, 5th season: No recorded stats from the Lions’ 34-9 plunge to New England.

John Fullington, T, San Francisco, rookie: Did not play; assigned to the 49ers’ practice squad.

Brandon Gibson, WR, Miami, 6th season: The Puyallup native caught a season-high five passes for 42 yards in the Dolphins’ 39-36 loss to Denver. He fumbled twice, but both were recovered by Miami.

Chris Ivory, RB, New York Jets, 5th season: Ran the ball seven times for 31 yards and caught 3 passes for 7 more in the Jets’ 38-3 fall to Buffalo on Monday.

Travis Long, LB, Philadelphia, 1st year: Did not play; on injured reserve.

Ropati Pitoitua, DE, Tennessee, 6th season: The Tacoma native was declared inactive for the Titans’ contest with Philadelphia.
