Leach's contract rolled over through 2019

COUGAR FOOTBALL coach Mike Leach’s contract rolled over for another year on Dec. 31, Washington State athletic director Bill Moos confirmed with Cougfan.com. That means Leach, who makes $2.75 million per year, is signed through the end of 2019.

Leach’s contract is such that unless he or Moos choose to opt out by Dec. 31, the 5-year deal rolls over automatically.

Leach was hired after the 2011 season and signed a five-year contract at that time. With two games left in the 2013 season -- his second at WSU -- Moos announced the automatic rollover provision in the original contract had been agreed to by both he and Leach, effectively extending the contract by two years.

Going forward, and barring either side enacting the opt-out provision by Dec. 31, it also means Leach will always begin the calendar year with a perpetual five-year deal.

The buyout provision in Leach's contract, as reported last month in the CF.C Blog, drops to $900,000 in 2015, down from $1.35 million this past year.

The Cougars, who have gone 12-25 (7-20) in his three seasons at the helm, earned a trip to the New Mexico Bowl last season. Leach's career record stands at 96–68 in 13 seasons as a head coach.
