Big WSU weekend: 2 new visitors confirm plans

THE DEAD PERIOD comes to a close on Thursday, meaning the Washington State staff will be hosting recruits this weekend on official visits. As of Tuesday morning, the official visit list on showed eight known prospects coming into town on Friday, including a pair of new attendees who confirmed their visit plans with CF.C.

Things are starting to get down to it for Redlands East Valley offensive tackle Joseph Price. The 6-6, 270-pounder holds offers from WSU, Cal and Fresno State and is yet to take an official visit. That will change this weekend.

“I’m going up there on Friday,” Price said of WSU via instant message with CF.C.

The Redlands, Calif., product is rated three stars by and the No. 35 OT in the West. Following his official visit to the Palouse, Price said he'll take a trip to Fresno State next weekend. He’s expecting to make his decision shortly after that trip.

Price helped lead REV to its first ever CIF-SS championship this season. The Press-Enterpise calls him "one of the Inland Empire’s best linemen the past few seasons... In the final seconds of the CIF-SS Inland Division championship game, Price played as hard as ever, driving Riverside Poly defenders to the turf well after the game was decided. But as soon as the buzzer sounded, Price was screaming at his celebrating teammates to get on the 50-yard line and shake their opponents hands, and was the first to hug and congratulate Poly coach Dennis Brown on their season," reported the newspaper."

CF.C has a call into Price, it was unclear on Monday night where his recruitment stands with California. His primary recruiter at Cal was Zach Yenzer, who recently left Berkeley to take a job with Kansas.

THE OTHER NEW VISITOR on the list: cornerback Willie Sykes (pictured above) out of Spring, Texas. He also told CF.C he's tripping to the Palouse this weekend via instant messaging.

Sykes said he has been in close contact with Dennis Simmons and Jarrail Jackson over the past month. Sykes had an in-home visit with Jackson back on Dec. 9 (Jackson and Graham Harrell were temporarily installed with assistant coach duties as allowed per NCAA rules after the dismissals of Mike Breske and Paul Volero).

The 5-11, 170-pounder, who is rated two stars by Scout, holds offers from Utah, Nebraska, Fresno State, Purdue, Minnesota and others.

Sykes, who has already taken official visits to Purdue and Minnesota, picked up his offer from Nebraska on Monday. An official visit to Lincoln is in the works.

A weekend official visit list can change drastically in the days before prospects arrive but as of now here are the other official visitors expected in Pullman this weekend: K Matt Abramo, CB Treshon Broughton, OL Cedric Bigge-Duren, WR Lavon Alston, RB James Williams and LB Fotu Leiato.
