Four-star Coug verbal to host Leach Thursday

IT WAS ABOUT a month ago that four-star Los Angeles linebacker Kyahva Tezino verbally committed to Washington State. Since then, schools have continued to court the four-star prospect, including Ole Miss, SDSU and others. Where do things stand between him and the Cougs? CF.C spoke with Tezino to find out.

On Dec. 16, the WSU coaching staff received the news from Tezino that he wanted to be a Coug. Has anything changed for him since?

“Things are starting to slow down for me right now,” said the Bishop Mora Salesian High product. “I’m still committed to Washington State, but schools like San Diego State, Boise State and Ole Miss are still showing interest. Those are the main schools that are still kind of after me.”

Tezino said he wanted to make one thing clear, though.

“I’m still solid to Washington State,” Tezino said. “They’re looking good right now, but I’m just trying to see what else is out there and make sure I made the right decision.”

MEMBERS OF THE WSU staff will be in Tezino’s home on Thursday evening to visit with him and his family. That includes head man Mike Leach.

“I just spoke with WSU today (Thursday) actually,” Tezino said. “I spoke with Coach Dennis Simmons and he let me know that they just hired their new defensive coordinator, which is exciting. I did a little bit of research on him and checked him out on Google. I’m looking forward to meeting him in person.

“I know on Thursday, Coach Mike Leach, Coach Simmons and Coach Ken Wilson are going to be coming over. I speak with Coach Simmons just about every day. Coach Wilson, the linebackers coach, has been talking with me too. Same with Leach. I talk to all the coaches basically.”

AS FAR AS other visits, Tezino (pictured above) said he most likely will not be taking any trips this weekend. However, he said he is planning on going to San Diego State on Jan. 23 and could take another visit before signing day.

“I’m leaving that weekend (Jan. 30) kind of up in the air,” Tezino said. “I might take that trip, but I don’t know where yet.

“With Ole Miss, they’ve told my coaches they’re interested in me. If they offered, I think I’d take a visit out there to check out the school and see what the SEC is all about. We’ll see what happens.”

THERE ARE OTHER Cougar verbal commits who may be taking additional official visits this weekend. On Wednesday night, Riverside CC linebacker Jonah Moi picked up an offer from TCU and will visit there this weekend, a JC source informed this morning.

Another prospect who could be taking a visit this weekend is four-star commit Thomas Toki out of Mountain View, Calif. On Wednesday, the Oklahoma State site reported that Toki will visit OSU this weekend, although the article didn't quote Toki as saying he’s taking the trip. Also, a prep source told's Barry Bolton that Toki has an in-home on Friday with Cougar d-line coach Joe Salave'a, so stay tuned on if that visit takes place this weekend. CF.C has a call into Toki.

New Cougar defensive coordinator Alex Grinch is already hard at work on social media for WSU recruiting. Grinch’s twitter account shows him following CB Marcus Lewis, LB Kyahva Tezino, LB Fotu Leiato, LB Jonah Moi and cornerback and UW verbal Austin Joyner.
