WSU: Second verbal of the day in DB Sykes!

RECRUITING CHANGES just that fast. Defensive back Willie Sykes out of Spring, Texas on Monday morning had planned to make his decision sometime after his visit to Nebraska this weekend, and he would be deciding between WSU, Nebraska and Purdue. But that all changed late Monday night -- Sykes went ahead and made the call, verbally committing to Mike Leach and the Cougs.

On Monday morning, CF.C had an abbreviated conversation with Sykes before the connection was lost. Sykes said then his visit this past weekend out on the Palouse was big ... “They moved up, for sure,” Sykes said.

About 12 hours later, it became apparent just how far the Cougs had moved up, with a prep source telling Cougfan.com that Sykes verbally committed to Washington State late Monday night.

Sykes (6-0, 180) who is rated two-stars out of Spring High, plays with a physical nature with good cover skills. WSU offered him back in November after seeing tape of his senior season.

It was unknown if Sykes had cancelled his planned trip to Nebraska this coming weekend.

Sykes went crimson over offers from Utah, Nebraska, Purdue, Minnesota, Fresno State and others.
