Future Coug Burnett steals the show at WCB

ONCE A RECRUIT verbals they tend to become out of sight, out of mind -- it's off to the next verbal commit for many followers of recruiting. But future Cougar wide receiver Deontay Burnett, who went crimson back in November, made a statement and then some on Sunday in the West Coast Bowl in taking home the game's MVP honor.

Deontay Burnett was "the star among stars on Sunday," Fox Sports reports.

Burnett (5-11, 160) caught two touchdown passes, including a 70-yarder in the first half that gave Team Speed the lead for good.

“I saw the corner was pressing, so I just beat him,” the speedy Burnett told the Daily News.

"Team Impact was thought to have the most talent but thanks to the Washington State commit Team Speed came away with the win," said Fox Sports.

Complete stats were not immediately available though other receiving talent on hand in the West Coast Bowl included Cougar 4-star target Lavan Alston. Also on the rosters were a pair of Cougar verbal commits: OL Cedric Bigge-Duren and LB Eddie Rudinski.
