Eric Mele officially WSU special teams coach

MIKE LEACH announced Tuesday in a release that Eric Mele's interim tag has been removed and that he has been named special teams coordinator at Washington State.

Brian Odom was also announced as joining WSU in a defensive quality control position.

Eric Mele became interim special teams coordinator midway through the 2014 season after Eric Russell was dismissed. Mele had been serving in an offensive quality control position.

"Mike Leach has removed the interim label and Mele heads into the 2015 season as one of the nine full-time assistant coaches," said the release.

“Eric did a nice job coming in midway through last season,” said Leach. “He is organized, hard-working, energetic and has a great rapport with the players.”

Odom arrives at WSU following three seasons at Houston where he served as Co-Director of Sports Performance. Prior to Houston he spent seven seasons at Arizona in a similar position, and his time at Arizona overlapped with WSU football chief of staff Dave Emerick. His coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Missouri, where he worked with new Cougar defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.

“Brian brings a great work ethic and an experienced football mind to our staff,” said Leach. ”He has been a part of football staffs that have seen a great deal of success and he will be an asset for our program.”
