WSU Daily Recruiting Notebook: Saturday

WSU HAS THREE known official visitors in Pullman this weekend. Earlier in the week, they had zero on the visit list. Things change that quickly in recruiting. CF.C readers knew of receiver C.J. Dimry and outside linebacker Nnamdi Oguayo, but there’s one more intriguing prospect we were able to confirm late Friday. Also, DE TJ Fehoko is set to make his decision on Saturday. Will he be a Coug?

Glacier Peak kicker Spencer Pettit had one heck of a senior campaign. He was 27-of-27 on his PATs and nailed seven kicks of more than 45 yards. This included a career-high 56-yarder.

Pettit, who is being recruited by Washington State as a preferred walk-on, is in Pullman this weekend for an official visit. The 5-9, 170-pounder is being recruited by new special teams coach Eric Mele. Mele had an in-home visit with Pettit last week.

According to kicking guru Chris Sailer, Pettit is among the top 12 kickers in the country.

“Spencer is simply an outstanding kicker,” Sailer wrote on his website. “He has a big leg, hits a great ball off the ground, and kickoffs are strong. Also shows punting potential. Is one of the very best kickers in the nation. Pure and smooth. A fine young man with a great attitude and work ethic. He will have a great college career. Excellent prospect. Love his future. OFFER NOW!!!”

Washington State holds a verbal commitment from kicker Matt Abramo, while New Jersey kicker Jarry Jones has accepted a preferred walk-on invite. We’ll keep you posted on Pettit.

ELSEWHERE IN RECRUITING, Scout.com’s Doug Kimmel reported late Friday evening that defensive end T.J. Fehoko will be announcing his college decision on Saturday night. According to Kimmel, the Salt Lake City, Utah product is down to Washington State, Nevada and North Carolina State.

Fehoko (pictured above), who checks in at 6-1, 250-pounds, took an official visit to Washington State in late November. Fehoko recently decommitted from Colorado as well. The three-star prospect is cousins with current WSU four-star commit Thomas Toki.

Kimmel will be on hand for Fehoko’s announcement and will have coverage of that event later today. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as this is certainly one to keep an eye on.

HERE ARE SOME more recruiting nuggets for you:

• Kimmel also reported on Friday night that three-star defensive end Mufi Hunt will be announcing his college decision on Wednesday. Hunt is down to WSU, Michigan State, BYU, Utah State and Oregon State. Hunt has taken official visits to all five schools.

• As most of you know, wide receiver commits Deontay Burnett and Dahu Green are on official visits to Michigan and Oklahoma right now. We’ll be working the phones on Sunday following their visits to see where things stand between them and Washington State.

• One prospect to keep an eye out for is in-state WR Justice Murphy. The Vancouver product recently decommitted from Utah and holds a Washington State offer. CF.C tried to reach Murphy on Saturday, but could not connect with the three-star prospect. We’ll see what we can find out.
