It's WSU Pro Day out on the Palouse

IT'S PRO DAY out on the Palouse, as scouts from several NFL teams will put Washington State seniors through their paces.

The only senior known not to be taking part this year ahead of time is long snapper Alex Den Bleyker. It's a small senior class and WSU did not release the names of the participants but expected to be on hand are Xavier Cooper, Connor Halliday and Vince Mayle, all of whom are projected by nfldraftscout.com to be taken in the NFL draft (April 30 - May 2).

In years past, most every Cougar senior has participated in the Cougs' Pro Day. Other seniors expected to take part year include Cyrus Coen, Rickey Galvin, Toni Pole, Isiah Myers, Marcus Mason and Theron West. Additional seniors who could be participating include Lyman Faoliu, Tracy Clark, Mitch Peterson and Jeff Waldner.

WSUs Pro Day is something like a mini-combine, where pro scouts are on hand to conduct agility drills, talk with coaches and measure 40 times, vertical jumps, bench presses, 3-cone drill, shuttle runs and the like.

Quarterbacks also throw to receivers and running backs. It's unknown if Halliday is far enough along in his rehab from his season-ending injury to throw on Thursday in front of the scout.

Mayle ran a slower=than-expected 40 at the combine (4.67) and will be looking to improve on that time and in other measurables. Mayle took part in the combine despite a broken thumb (and therefore was not allowed to bench press by the NFL in Indy).

Cooper, meanwhile, looks to have increased his draft stock coming out of the NFL combine. He told Cougfan.com this week he won’t be running the 40-yard dash or doing the bench press (where he posted a better-than-expected 4.83 and 29 reps at the combine, respectively) but will going through positional drills.

Speaking of the scouts, they tend to keep the numbers secret upon pain of death, even to the participants themselves.

The event is closed to the public and scheduled to take place in the IPF. Chris Shaw will be on hand for Cougfan.com, look for his report later today as well as some insights on the CF.C twitter account.
