Cougfan TV: Special teams sees attitude shift

PULLMAN -- Asked Tuesday to evaluate Washington State's special teams this spring, coach Mike Leach praised the group while offering a damning of assessment of the unit that bogged down the Cougars last season. According to Leach, an attitude change was much-needed. And that's what he's seen from special teams coach Eric Mele's group so far.

"I felt like in the past, occasionally, there's some weird entitlement with some guys that think they're too good to play special teams," Leach said after Tuesday's practice. "We purged them. We either changed them or we get rid of them.

"Some of the best guys I've had, they'd get mad if they didn't get to play on all the special teams," he added. "Wes Welker always wanted to know why he wasn't on all five of them."
