WSU in final two for JC center Conor Clifford

HOLDING DOUBLE DIGIT offers, Saddleback Junior College center Conor Clifford recently narrowed his list down to three schools. However, on Thursday, the 6-11, 270-pounder cut things down to a top two, with WSU and Utah making the final cut. And a decision is coming in the next 24 hours, Saddleback JC coach Andy Ground informed Cougfan.com.

Interestingly, South Carolina was the only school Clifford was following on twitter. But the Gamecocks are now out of the picture.

Clifford took an official visit to Utah last weekend and took his official visit to Washington State in late March. Shortly after his visit to the Palouse, Ground informed CF.C that Clifford's trip to Pullman went well and that he had built a good relationship with the Cougar staff.

The Utes jumped in late on Clifford's recruitment, but seem to have made an impact on him. Ground said that Clifford is expected to make his final decision at some point on Friday.

AT SADDLEBACK THIS SEASON, Clifford was dominant in the paint, averaging 14.7 points and six rebounds per game. His play helped the Gauchos capture the California JC state championship. Clifford, who has two years of eligibility remaining, was also named the 2014-15 All-Orange Empire Conference Team Player of the Year.

His strong play led to scholarship offers from WSU, Utah, South Carolina, West Virginia, Missouri, UTEP, Idaho and several others.

“He’s a legit five-man in the low post,” Ground told CF.C earlier this month. “He can score down on the block with either his left hook or right hook. He can step out to 15-17 feet and hit open jumpers as well.

“He needs to make some improvements defensively, but he’s a big guy and he’s hard to score over.”

Notable Note:
CF.C will continue to monitor Clifford's recruitment and have an update on Friday. It seems like Clifford is torn between both WSU and Utah. This one could go either way.
