Hoops: Confusion reigns over Conor Clifford

THREE HOURS after his coach told us Conor Clifford had committed to Washington State, we received a call from another JC source – one we know to be highly reliable over many years – who said he believes the Saddleback coach jumped the gun. That’s not to say Clifford isn’t coming to Wazzu, the source told us, but he said he knows for certain that he has not firmly decided where he’s going.

Subsequent attempts to reach Saddleback coach Andy Ground have been unsuccessful, as have attempts to reach Clifford (7-0, 270).

Clifford, the co-JUCO Player of the Year in California, had narrowed down a lengthy list of college offers to WSU, Utah and South Carolina in recent weeks. He eliminated South Carolina this week and was to decide between WSU and Utah on Friday, his coach told reporters. No decision came on Friday, but then his coach exchanged texts with CF.C today, saying he was WSU-bound.

In 2014-15, Clifford averaged 14.7 points and six rebounds per game. He held offers from WSU, Utah, South Carolina, West Virginia, Missouri, UTEP and others.
