So long, Sam: WSU's post-spring depth chart

HOT OFF THE PRESSES, the post-spring Washington State depth chart no longer features a SAM linebacker. In its place, the nickel back.

At the nickel, former safety Darius Lemora (pictured above) is No. 1 on the depth chart with a pair of walk ons backing him up: Colton Teglovic and Parker Henry are listed as -OR- for the No. 2 job coming out of spring.

Last year's starting SAM, Cyrus Coen, is graduating and his understudy on the dpeth chart at season's end, Paris Taylor, is now the No. 2 WIL behind Jeremiah Allison.

There are no huge surprises on the post-spring depth chart, but there are some notable notes.

Gerard Wicks is listed as the No. 1 running back, with Keith Harrington listed as -OR- with last year’s starter, Jamal Morrow, at the No. 2 running back post.

Andre Dillard (6-5, 266) is listed as the backup left tackle behind starter Joe Dahl.

Carlos Freeman is listed as an -OR- with Sam Flor at the backup center spot behind starter Riley Sorenson.

Robert Lewis is the starting H with walk on John Thompson backing him up. Calvin Green, who moved from inside to outside receiver this spring, is listed as the No. 2 Z behind Gabe Marks.

Luke Falk and Peyton Bender continue to be listed as -OR- for the starting QB job.

On defense, walk on Reggie Coates’ performance this spring has vaulted him into the No. 2 spot at end, with transfer Jeremiah Mitchell listed as the No. 3, though it should be noted Mitchell was limited this spring.

Chandler Leniu is the No. 2 MIK behind starter Peyton Pelluer.

Former safety David Bucannon is now listed as a cornerback behind starter Charleston White. The other corner spot lists Marcellus Pippins as the starter with Patrick Porter backing him up.

The offense features six upperclassmen in starting positions, with five sophomores or freshmen listed as No. 1s.

The defensive depth chart features five upperclassmen starters, all seniors, and six underclassmen, all sophomores.

There are a number of new Cougs in the 2015 class arriving later this summer who figure to challenge for playing time at several spots, particularly on defense. Additionally, players on the current roster such as Mitchell and Hercules Mata'afa could also make a move up the chart in fall ball. The same holds true for two roster linebackers not listed on the post-spring two-deeps: Frankie Luvu and Greg Hoyd as well as DL Ngalu Tapa. In other words this depth chart is a great post-spring look, but it also figures to look very different coming out fall camp.
