BREAKING: New Coug verbal has top-end speed

THREE-STAR wide receiver prospect Renard Bell our of Los Angeles is fast – that becomes evident quickly when looking at his junior highlight tape. Give him a seam and he’s gone. On Thursday, he bolted crimson and verbally committed to Washington State.

Renard Bell (5-10, 160) out of Cathedral High is potentially a wide receiver or corner at the next level. He could also be a return man.

“I just want the ball in my hands,” said Bell, who has clocked a 10.8 in the 100 meters.

THE COUGARS, Bell said, liked a number of things about him.

“The main thing was my speed,” said Bell. “They liked my route running and my ability to make moves. They liked my versatility, on offense and defense, to do pretty much everything anything they were looking for in a receiver or DB.”

Washington State was first to offer Bell. Assistant Roy Manning ran the recruiting point for the Cougs.

“It felt like I had known (Manning) for a long time as soon as I talked to him,” said Bell. “I’ve also been talking to (inside receives coach Dave) Yost and he is really cool. With Coach Manning I feel really comfortable around him.

“Ever since they offered (Manning) has been showing me love and that they really wanted me to come to WSU. I feel really comfortable with all the coaches up there.”

BELL VERBALLED to WSU over offers from Fresno State, SDSU and Nevada, with Boise State, Utah and others showing interest during the soon-to-end May Evaluation period. An unofficial visit to the Palouse is on his June schedule.

“I’m planning to go in the next few weeks up to Washington State, just to see the campus… meet all the coaches,” said Bell.

Bell said WSU has told him he’ll come to Pullman as a receiver but he could eventually wind up on the other side of the ball at corner.

“I like playing corner and I like playing receiver, I don’t really have a preference,” said Bell.

Bell becomes the third known verbal commitment for Washington State in the 2016 class, joining LB Jihad Woods and QB Ian Book.
