WSU verbal Cody Brewer 'better than ever'

HARD TO BELIEVE, on a day when Washington State lost to one of the Big Sky Conference's most downtrodden programs, that there was good news in the crimson orbit. But so it was on Saturday, down in Corpus Christi, Texas, where future WSU quarterback Cody Brewer turned in an outstanding performance.

"Cody threw it better than I have ever seen," Chris Steinbruck, Brewer's head coach at Flour Bluff High, told Cougfan.com following his team's 42-17 non-conference victory over East Texas powerhouse Kilgore High.

"Cody did a tremendous job leading our team this week," he said.

Brewer completed 22 of 34 passes for 293 yards and 2 TDs and also rushed for a TD.

"We didn't throw a pass in the fourth quarter, so those numbers were through three quarters," Steinbruck noted.

Jason Richards, Flour Bluff's offensive coordinator, told CF.C that Brewer "looked sharp again, spreading the ball to five receivers and scoring on our first three possessions."

He added, "Cody showed great poise in the pocket. Our linemen gave him plenty of time to find the first and second options on pass plays."

Flour Bluff is now 1-1 on the season, with Brewer a collective 41-of-64 passing for 434 yards, 4 TDs and no interceptions.
