NFL Cougar Highlights: Week One

TEN WASHINGTON STATE alums appear on opening day NFL rosters, albeit forty percent of those Coug players are either on injured reserve or the practice squad. The year ended before it began for Brandon Gibson, Travis Long, and John Fullington, while rookie Vince Mayle hitched on to the Dallas practice squad.

Mayle was a fourth-round pick of Cleveland and was among the Browns’ last cuts. He struggled in his return from thumb surgery last Spring and caught just five passes during preseason. Not long after his release, the Cowboys came calling.

Notably absent from this year's list are quarterback Jeff Tuel, who was released from Jacksonville, but has had try-outs with Oakland and New England recently, and veteran fullback Jed Collins, who was cut by Dallas just two months after being signed by the club last Spring.

Here’s how the NFL Cougs performed in week one.
