CFC TV: Sunday night insights with Grinch & Mele

PULLMAN -- As the Cougars prepare for their first Pac-12 game, defensive coordinator Alex Grinch is succinct when asked where his unit stands. "A little disappointed with the lack of discipline at times ... letting offenses off the hook," he told Sunday following practice. Meanwhile, WSU special teams coach Eric Mele says his group has cleaned up some problems over the last week.

Asked about players who've stood out after three games, Grinch dubbed tackle Destiny Vaeao "a force" and also gave nods to linebackers Jeremiah Allison (pictured above) and Peyton Pelluer.

  • Matt Abramo, Amosa Sakaria, T.J. Fehoko and C.J. Dimry didnt participate in the hour-long shorts and helmets session, and Isaac Dotson and Suli Hameed were absent. Dotson has been absent since Wednesday and Hameed has been limited since fall camp started.

  • The defense focused on gap assignments in the 7-on-7 portion of the evening,

  • In 11-on-11 drills, the first-team offensive line was opening massive lanes for the running backs against the scout team defense.
