Recruiting: QB offer out to 2018 'Rising' hurler

QUARTERBACK RECRUITING at Washington State will always be a top priority for the Cougars. So it should come as no surprise when the staff jumps out and extends early offers to prospects. And on Monday night, Mike Leach and company were the first school to offer a class of 2018 prospect, who threw seven touchdowns in a game earlier this fall. That and more in our Tuesday recruiting notebook

Indeed, the Cougars were offer No. 1 for sophomore quarterback Cameron Rising. The 6-3, 180-pounder is from Newbury Park, Calif., and has put up some big stats early on this fall.

In a 56-12 victory over Dos Pueblos on Sept. 18, Rising put up mindboggling numbers, throwing for 428 yards and seven touchdowns. He was 16-of-24 passing that game, with no interceptions.

On the season, Rising has thrown for 1,260 yards and 19 touchdowns in only four games. He’s done a good job taking care of the football, throwing one interception in 98 attempts.
RISING ISN’T THE only quarterback prospect to pick up a recent scholarship from the Cougars. Last week, Wilsonville, Ore., signal caller Connor Neville also picked up a tender from WSU.

The 6-2, 195-pounder is ranked four stars by Scout.com and also holds an offer from Boise State. Neville, a class of 2017 prospect, is also having himself one heck of a season thus far.

In four games for Wilsonville High, the junior has thrown for 1,028 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has completed 65-of-93 pass attempts, a 70 percent completion rate.

Additional recruiting notes:

• The Cougs sent out an offer over the weekend to 2017 in-state offensive tackle Cody Kanouse. The 6-7, 280-pounder hails from Gig Harbor, starring for Peninsula High. WSU was offer No. 1 for the junior.

• A prospect who won’t suit up for the Cougars down the road is 2016 cornerback Lawrence White. The three-star prospect, who had long shown high interest in the Cougars, announced his commitment to Iowa State on Monday night.

• WSU has some new competition for in-state 2016 offensive tackle Kameron Smith. Past week, the 6-8, 300-pounder announced on his Twitter page that he picked up an offer from Hawaii. Smith now holds offers from Hawaii, WSU and Utah State.
