NFL Cougar Highlights: Week Seven

THE ARIZONA CARDINALS are finally calling safety Deone Bucannon what he really is: a linebacker. Or, more specifically, a “dollar” linebacker.

Whatever you want to call the former Washington State great, there’s no questioning that the Cardinal strong safety lining up inside the box has been a winning recipe for Arizona. Coming into Monday’s matchup with Baltimore, Bucannon led all Cardinals in defensive stops with 53 tackles, 42 of those solo.

And he kept it up against the Ravens on Monday, posting a team best nine tackles—7 of them solo, and one for a loss—in the Cardinals’ 26-18 victory. It is the fifth game this season Bucannon has led or tied his squad for the lead in tackles.

Here’s how the rest of the NFL Cougs performed in week seven.

Husain Abdullah, FS, Kansas City, 7th season: Posted two tackles (1 solo) in the Chiefs’ 23-13 victory against Pittsburgh.

Xavier Cooper, DL, Cleveland, rookie: Tallied two solo tackles in the Browns’ 24-6 loss to St. Louis.

John Fullington, G, Arizona, 1st season: Did not play; on injured reserve.

Brandon Gibson, WR, New England, 7th season: Did not play; on injured reserve.

Chris Ivory, RB, New York Jets, 6th season: Gained just 41 yards on 17 carries in New York’s 30-23 loss to New England, but did catch a 9 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Was targeted twice, catching both for 12 yards and the aforementioned TD. Tweaked his hamstring on the first play from scrimmage.

Travis Long, LB, Philadelphia, 2nd year: Did not play; on injured reserve.

Vince Mayle, WR, Dallas, rookie: Did not play; assigned to practice squad.

Ropati Pitoitua, DE, Tennessee, 7th season: The Tacoma native has no recorded stats from the Titans’ 10-7 loss to Atlanta.

Jeff Tuel, QB, Jacksonville, 3rd season: Did not play; assigned to Jaguars practice squad.

Marquess Wilson, WR, Chicago, 3rd season: Did not play; bye week.
