Lewis out of Antelope, Calif., gave Harrell the news and Harrell immediately let o-line coach Clay McGuire know.
"I'm super excited -- it's a great night, "said Lewis. "They were pretty excited also."
Lewis (6-6, 270) chose Washington State over offers from Utah State, UNLV, San Jose State, San Diego State, Fresno State and others.
Lewis, out of Antelope High, was offered by WSU right after the spring evaluation period concluded at the end of May.
Lewis likes Leach's Air Raid - a lot.
"I really like the offense they run up there -- and they did a great job of recruiting me with (Harrell and McGuire) actively talking and staying in touch with me," he said.
Lewis verballed sight unseen to Washington State but said he has family in the state of Washington and has been to the Evergreen State once before.
He also said the family atmosphere at WSU described by Harrell and McGuire was exactly what he was looking for.
“I have been talking to my coaches and parents for a long time now (about WSU) and I decided tonight was the night…It was the right time in my season too," said Lewis.
That season has already been one for the books to date.
Lewis and undefeated Antelope High (11-0) play a D-II second-round playoff game on Friday night vs. Sacramento High.
Lewis said he will officially visit WSU in a few weeks, his trip to the Palouse is set for Dec. 11.
Lewis becomes the 18th known verbal commitment in Leach's 2016 class, joining OL Keenen King, CB Marcus Strong, ATH Justus Rogers DE Mason Vinyard, CB Isaiah Love, LB Derek Moore, LB Chima Onyeukwu, QB Cody Brewer, WR Grant Porter, CB/Nickel Skyler Thomas, OL Joshua Watson, WR Josiah Westbrook, WR/CB D'Jimon Jones, WR Stephen Houston, CB Jalen Thompson, WR/CB Renard Bell and LB Jihad Woods.
