Report: No. 4 for WSU is practicing

PERHAPS MIKE LEACH is stealing an Apple Cup idea from Jackie Sherrill, who disguised backup quarterback John Hopkins in a phony jersey number and then sent him in for a gorgeous halfback pass in the 1976 Apple Cup. Today, blue jersey No. 4 could be seen on the practice field at Martin Stadium from high above. Whether Luke Falk was in it has yet to be determined.

But presuming Leach isn’t playing charades and it was Luke Falk the Tacoma News Tribune saw practicing Tuesday in Martin Stadium, the QB situation for the Apple Cup (somehow) just got even more interesting.
The Trib's Todd Milles tweeted out a short time ago that No. 4 was suited up and practicing.

The News Tribune’s tweet naturally went viral. KJR’s Ian Furness among those hitting the retweet button.

NOTE: A previous version of this article incorrectly identified Jim Sweeney, rather than Jackie Sherrill, as the WSU coach who had Hopkins weat a different jersey number.
