NFL Cougar Highlights: Week 17

WITH THE REGULAR season coming to a close on Sunday, all but two of the former Washington State greats in the NFL will be watching the postseason on TV. But advancing to playoff glory couldn’t have been further from the mind of one of those Cougs this weekend.

The father of Kansas City’s Husain Abdullah’s passed away this week. The seventh-year NFL safety announced his loss in a tweet on Saturday afternoon. The funeral was held Sunday in Kansas City.

Abdullah was inactive for the Chiefs’ 23-17 win against Oakland. He had been listed as questionable for Sunday’s contest after being a limited practice participant all week. He suffered a concussion in week 12 and sat the following four games as a result.

The Chiefs will face Houston in first round action next weekend.

DESPITE AN 36-6 ass-waxing by Seattle, Deone Bucannon and the Arizona Cardinals will have a first-round playoff bye. The safety/linebacker posted nine tackles (8 solo) in the loss.

Here’s how the other NFL Cougs performed in week 17.

Xavier Cooper, DL, Cleveland, rookie: No recorded stats from the Browns’ 28-12 fall to Pittsburgh.

John Fullington, G, Arizona, 1st season: Did not play; on injured reserve.

Brandon Gibson, WR, New England, 7th season: Did not play; on injured reserve.

Chris Ivory, RB, New York Jets, 6th season: Rushed for 81 yards on six carries in the Jets 22-17 loss to Buffalo. Those hashes pushed him over the 1,000 yard season mark for the first time in his career. He ends the season with 1,070 yards.

Travis Long, LB, Philadelphia, 2nd year: Did not play; on injured reserve.

Vince Mayle, WR, Dallas, rookie : The Cowboys promoted the first year pro from the practice squad to the 53-man roster this week, but he was listed as an inactive for the Cowboys’ 34-23 loss to Washington.
