WSU recruiting: Tracking down Mr. X

THERE MAY STILL be a Mr. X in Washington State’s signing class eight days from now – after all, the Cougs just picked up a new verbal Monday night from a d-end heretofore off the radar in Danny Bender out of El Cajon, Calif. But if so, it won’t be the same Mr. X that came onto the CF.C radar back in December.

Mr. X is the figurative name CF.C gives to a potential Signing Day surprise.

And a source had told CF.C the Cougs were looking strongly at another American Samoa prospect in addition to o-line recruit Frederick Mauigoa, but declined to identify him.  The source did say the hang up was if he would qualify, that he’s actually a fine student, but there are potential issues with Clearinghouse.

There’s still enough uncertainty that WSU won’t be signing him next Wednesday, a second prep source has told CF.C, and identified the recruit as Viane Moala a 6-7, 270-pound offensive tackle prospect.

Moala is expected to sign with Hawaii on Wednesday, who offered him earlier this month.

Plenty of late stage drama could still take place, and a new Mr. X could emerge.  Washington State has 27 known pledges -- but no QB or DT.

Four have already enrolled at WSU in WR Isaiah Johnson, QB/ATH Justus Rogers, CB Jalen Thompson and JUCO DE Garrett McBroom. Transfer and verbal commit Logan Tuley-Tillman doesn’t show on the commit list because he’s a transfer.

Two of those on the list won’t sign with WSU, as we reported HERE.
