Leach, Rodriguez, Pittsburgh and speedos

AFTER WASHINGTON STATE’s A Night with Cougar Football in Vancouver on Saturday, there’s only one left – in Seattle on Feb. 27. Mike Leach will be in Vancouver, but won’t be able to attend the event in Seattle. How come?

Leach has a previous engagement scheduled that’s long been on the books: a NIKE Coach of the Year Clinic in Pittsburgh from Feb. 26-28.

It’s one of 15 COY clinics NIKE is putting on in 2016.  Last year, NIKE says, almost 13,000 high school coaches attended the 15 clinics.

Leach’s lecture topic at the clinic will be the Air Raid offense.

Other college coaches who will be in Pittsburgh are Dabo Swinney, Clemson; Rich Rodriguez, Arizona; David Cutcliffe, Duke; Scott Shafer, Syracuse and Paul Rhoads, Iowa State.

At Pac-12 media days this past August, Rodriguez regaled the audience with a story about Leach. Ten years ago at a NIKE event in Mexico, Rodriguez said he and other coaches saw Leach swimming in a lagoon in a speedo.

Leach's side of the story is HERE

So we’re interested in seeing if Leach comes back with any Rodriguez stories from their time in Pittsburgh.

Leach got the better of Rodriguez on the field this past season, with Washington State beating Arizona 45-42 in Tucson.

Meanwhile, the Night with Cougar Football at the Sheraton Hotel in Seattle on Feb. 27 might be missing Leach, but it won’t be short on crimson star power.

Defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and members of the WSU staff will hold a Q&A session with ESPN anchor Jaymee SireBill Moos will be on hand, as will Jack Thompson, Brandon Gibson, Alex Brink, Xavier Cooper, Jed Collins and Rian Lindell.
