Schexnayder (5-10, 185) said Washington State special teams coach Eric Mele was a big part of the decision.
“It was just the family atmosphere and that Coach Mele has been with me from the beginning,” said Schexnayder. “He has really recruited me hard. I have a good bond with him and Coach Leach.”
Schexnayder chose WSU over walk on invites from TCU, Oklahoma State, UCF and New Mexico State. WSU was the only school of the group to go to the expense and effort in bringing Schexnayder out on an official visit.
“I really fell in love with the place,” said Schexnayder.
Schexnayder booted 31 punts this past season with a long of 77 yards. He averaged 43.4 hashes per punt, with 18 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
--Cougar safety Hunter Dale hails from the same high school as Schexnayder.
--He was also the kickoff specialist at Carter but said WSU is looking at him only as a punter.
--He is no relation to Cougar WR Calvin Schexnayder (1991-92)
