Mike Leach offers Florida QB

QUARTERBACK MAC JONES out of Jacksonville, Fla., verbally committed to Kentucky this past summer but according to Scout.com’s Corey Bender, Washington State offered him on Monday. If a crimson offer to a Florida prospect already pledged to another school sounds surprising, it shouldn’t.

New WSU inside receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard heavily recruited the state of Florida while he was at Western Kentucky and while WSU doesn’t figure to suddenly start taking prospects left and right out of the Sunshine State, an uptick in Florida verbals and signings at Washington State given Shaephard's connections could be in the offing.

Jones is a 6-2, 175-pounder and rated three stars on Scout.com. Complete stats weren't immediately available but Jones threw for 2,219 yards as a junior, with 26 TDs against 5 interceptions.

Jones is “a well-rounded quarterback prospect that throws a catchable ball with nice touch, especially when stretching the football field and going deep. Jones does a nice job of setting his feet and stepping into his throws, and plays with a great deal of anticipation and awareness as well,” says Bender.

WSU has six known QB offers out in the 2017 class:  Chase Garbers, Tristan Gebbia, Jones, Tyler Lytle, Connor Neville and Tua Tagovailoa.
