ESPN’s case for/against Washington State as Pac-12 champs

HOW DOES Washington State capture the Pac-12 title this season and dethrone defending champ Stanford? The key, ESPN says, is to seize momentum in the first half of the 2016 season.

Washington State has seven of 12 games at home this season but face Oregon and Stanford back-to-back to open its conference slate.

Immediately after that, tests against UCLA and ASU await.

“A 4-0 start in conference play, which would include wins over the perceived top two teams in the conference, puts the Cougars in the driver’s seat. Even splitting the division games would be solid -- whether it’s beating Oregon or the Cardinal. If they drop those back-to-back division games, however, it’s going to be a tough hole to dig out of,” writes Kevin Gemmell.
