“John Curry, the athletic director at Kansas State, called me within 30 minutes of the announcement,” Moos said. “His exact quote was, ‘Hey Bill, you just hit the presidential lottery.’ I think what we’re going to see is a visionary president dedicated to the land grant mission, exceptionally smart.”
Moos, who has often talked about the importance of the late Elson Floyd’s vision when it came to the importance of athletics, said Schulz looks to be cut from the same cloth.
“Curry (said) he is outstanding as to realizing the role of intercollegiate athletics and what it can do for the overall university, and that’s important,” said Moos. “I understand he is not a micromanager and he expects a lot… they’ve built a ton of facilities in Manhattan… and they’ve done some great things in men’s basketball.”
Moos said he has already texted a little with Schulz -- one of the things Schulz asked Moos for was Mike Leach’s contact info.
Speaking of Leach, Moos was bullish on the 2016 Air Raid.
“If all cylinders are firing, it’s impossible to defend especially if you have a triggerman like Luke Falk,” said Moos. “There are some holes we have to fill… but we have the depth now…where we don’t lose a step…Our fans are going to have a lot of fun this fall.”
