Strength of schedule favors Cougs, says ESPN

NINE PAC-12 teams boast a strength of schedule ranked among the nation’s 25 most difficult, according to ESPN. Washington State is not among them.

ESPN ranks WSU’s strength of schedule this season as the 41st most difficult nationally.

In the Pac-12, only Arizona’s (47) and Washington’s (52) are ranked easier, according to ESPN.

USC has not only the most difficult schedule in the league, but also in the nation.

Pac-12 schools' strength of schedule rankings, per ESPN:
USC (1)
Cal (5)
UCLA (9)
Stanford (12)
Oregon State (14)
Utah (16)
Oregon (20)
Colorado (21)
ASU (25)
Washington State (41)
Arizona (47)
Washington (52)

The strength of schedule rankings are part of ESPN’s Football Power Index.  ESPN’s FPI ranks WSU at No. 38, with a projected win-loss record of 6.7 - 5.4 in 2016.

Last year at the start of the season, it ranked WSU No. 55, with a projected win-loss of 5.2 – 6.8.

ESPN’s FPI was the twelfth most accurate computer rating system last year, according to The Prediction Tracker.  Tops on the list was the Thompson Average (whatever the heck that is).
