Really, Sports Illustrated? Cougar quarterback Luke Falk doesn't make your top 100?

IS WASHINGTON STATE quarterback Luke Falk one of college football’s top 100 players? ESPN answers with an emphatic yes. Sports Illustrated says no.

ESPN actually places Falk in its top 50, at No. 43 on its list. Thirty-two ESPN college football writers, editors and analysts rated players on a scale of 0-10 (Falk’s rating was 7.85) based on their expected contributions for the 2016 season.

“He emerged as one of the nation's top passers last season, finishing fifth nationally with 4,561 yards and tied for fourth with 38 passing touchdowns. With an outstanding receiving corps and an offense designed to move the ball through the air, look for Falk to build on last season's success,” says ESPN.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated does not include Falk on its top 100 list.  Notable Pac-12 players who did make SI’s 100 include UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen, ranked at No. 11 overall (and the No. 2 QB in all of college football, according to Sports Illustrated).

SI ranks Cougar wideout Gabe Marks at No. 57 on its list.

“Marks put up impressive numbers (104 catches, 1,192 yards, 15 touchdowns and a team-leading 69.8 percent catch rate on a team-leading 149 targets, according to Football Study Hall) as the featured target on a surprisingly formidable Washington State team last season. Everything is in place for him to replicate, if not exceed, those statistics this season: head coach Mike Leach and his high-octane, pass-heavy scheme; talented quarterback Luke Falk; and eight returning starters on offense,” says Sports Illustrated.

Marks is No. 56 on ESPN’s list, with a score of 7.52.

After hauling in 15 touchdowns last season, Marks and quarterback Luke Falk are on pace to be one of the most prolific pass-catch duos in Pac-12 history. Marks' numbers from 2015 more than warranted a spot in the NFL, but the Biletnikoff semifinalist opted to return for a final season, in which he's expected to thrive again in Mike Leach's "Air Raid."
