Mike Leach sees good stuff from 6 Coug rookies on Day Seven, rattles off assessment of six positions

LEWISTON – Mike Leach ran into a door on Friday, and the door might have gotten the better of the exchange. On the field, Washington State’s head man said Day Seven was probably the best of fall camp so far.

Among the true freshmen and Cougar rookies on stage Friday, Leach said safety Jalen Thompson stood out, as did DB Robert Taylor. Slot man Renard Bell, outside receiver Dezmon Patmon, o-lineman Liam Ryan, center Frederick Mauigoa (Leach called him “Frank”) also were “doing some good stuff.”

Position-wise, Leach said the Cougs have more depth and more speed in the defensive backfield than last year, the d-line is getting faster and the wideouts are taller -- but still a work in progress. He said some of the young o-linemen have improved since the start of fall ball and the running back spot remains as highly competitive as ever.

Leach towards the end was also asked about if he was still on board with Donald Trump and reiterated his support for the presidential candidate. Leach also added that he's most focused on his day job and the work that needs to be done with the football team. Check out the full video below.
