Mercury News' Jon Wilner predicts Washington State game-by-game

LONGTIME PAC-12 writer Jon Wilner of the Mercury News has predicted the outcome of every Washington State regular season game. On one hand, he writes, “I wouldn’t be the slightest bit surprised if WSU won the North.” On the other hand, he predicts Colorado will upset the Cougs.

Wilner has the Cougs starting out strong, beating Boise State and wrapping up the non conference slate at 3-0.   But then he sees two momentum-killing losses to Oregon and Stanford.

Washington State then rides a four-game win streak, according to Wilner, to move to 7-2.  But the Cougs' regular season, in Wilner’s crystal ball, ends on a three-game slide.

The bottom line is a predicted 7-5 (4-5 Pac-12) record.

"I struggled to envision WSU having the depth needed to win the division and having the frame of mind necessary to handle the success that comes with competing for a title. Everything changes with expectations, especially when expectations arise for the first time," Wilner writes.
