NFL Cougar Higlights: Week Two

HE PLAYED JUST seven snaps Monday night, but defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao made the most of his limited opportunities. The Washington State product became the first undrafted rookie for Philadelphia to record a sack and force a fumble on the same play. Better still, his effort turned out to be the key momentum-shifter in the Eagles’ eventual 29-14 win against Chicago.

The play occurred minutes into the third quarter with the Bears holding a 9-7 lead over the Eagles. Philly recovered the fumble and went on to score 21 unanswered points. Vaeao’s victim, Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler, did not return to the contest following the sack due to a thumb injury.

Vaeao tallied five preseason sacks for Philadelphia.

His former teammate, Arizona’s hybrid linebacker Deone Bucannon, posted four solo tackles—including one for a loss—in the Cardinals’ 40-7 ass-waxing of Tampa Bay.

Second-year pro Xavier Cooper, a defensive end for Cleveland, had no recorded stats in the Browns’ 25-20 loss to Baltimore.

Two additional Wazzu alums were inactives for week two action. Jacksonville running back Chris Ivory was still recovering from the “general medical issue” that hospitalized him the prior week, while rookie offensive lineman Joe Dahl was a healthy scratch for Detroit.
