Cougar hoops: Open practices on Saturday before football game for both the Washington State men's and women's teams

BEFORE THE BIG Cougar football game vs. UCLA on Saturday night, Cougar alums and fans can catch both the Washington State men's and women's basketball teams practice at Beasley.

Ernie Kent and Co. will take the court Saturday afternoon at Beasley at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s team led by June Daugherty following at approximately 2 p.m. Both sessions are open to the public. Plus, members of the men’s and women’s teams will be available to sign autographs on the concourse of Beasley following the conclusion of the women’s practice. Those in attendance will also hear from Kent, now in his third year at WSU, as well as Daugherty, in her 10th year out on the Palouse.

The women’s team returns four starters highlighted by sophomore guard Borislava Hristova, an All-Pac-12 selection last season and junior guard Caila Hailey, Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honorable mention. The Cougars also feature five freshmen including 5-star point guard Chanelle Molina out of Hawaii.

The men return three starters including All-Pac-12 honorable mention Josh Hawkinson, who led the league in rebounds per game and double-doubles. Seven newcomers join Kent's squad in 2016-17.

Both teams will hold exhibition games on Nov. 6 in Pullman, with the women hosting Alaska Anchorage at 2 p.m. and the men hosting Carroll College at 5 p.m. The season officially begins Nov. 11 at home for both squads. Season tickets and mini plans are on sale for the 2016-17 men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
