WSU head man Mike Leach: Alex Grinch and Co. are getting it done despite being down 2 Cougar starters

PULLMAN – Washington State is 12-3 over its last 15 Pac-12 games. Mike Leach said Monday that doesn't happen without the right attitude present in the locker room. Leach also opined on the job defensive coordinator Alex Grinch is doing, including recent performances despite being minus two starters. Leach talked a lot about the East Coast bias on rankings and bowl projections involving the Pac-12.

Leach said Grinch has done a tremendous job of handling the loss of two starters in Robert Barber and Logan Tago, and also noted nickel/safety Shalom Luani, arguably the Cougs' best player on defense, did not play in the opener, a 3-point loss to EWU.

Leach said Barber and Tago remain a big part of the team -- and that they should be with their teammates right now.
“You’re talking to somebody that cuts somebody if they test positive for drugs," said Leach. "So, just knowing the facts like I do and having evaluated it, were just tangled up in a bunch of bureaucracy that it shouldn’t be.”
Leach (pictured above with UA's Rich Rodriguez) also talked about his relationship with star wideout Gabe Marks saying he’s a brilliant, very competitive guy who thinks independently. Leach said he thinks that people underestimate how smart Marks is, and that Marks would make a pretty good football coach one day.
