As expected, WSU's Ernie Kent signs a pair from the same junior college in Texas

AS EXPECTED, center Davante Cooper (6-11, 235) and guard Kwinton Hinson (6-4, 215) from the same junior college in Texas signed letters of intent with Washington State on Wednesday, Ernie Kent announced in a release.

Kent's comments:

Cooper, an Atlanta native, is beginning his first season at Tyler Junior College at Tyler, Texas, after playing his freshman year at Bradley. He appeared in 26 games in 2015-16 at Bradley, averaging 1.7 points, and 1.3 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from the field in 8.0 minutes a game.

Cooper graduated from Orangewood Academy in Southern California, where he played both basketball and volleyball. He was the 2014 Express League MVP by the Orange County Athletic Director's Association and a first team all-conference selection by the OC Register. Following graduation, he spent the 2014-15 school year at West Oaks Academy in Florida.

Hinson, originally from Fairmont, N.C., is in his second season at Tyler. Last year he led the team in scoring, averaging 13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field in 28 games. His season-high was 36 points on .63 percent shooting from the field (75 percent from 3-point range).

Plan on seeing more signings in Kent's 2017 class. The 2016-17 squad that opens the season Friday has four seniors: F Josh Hawkinson, G Ike Iroegbu, C Conor Clifford and G Charles Callison, which gives Kent two additional spots to fill in '17 beyond Cooper and Hinson.

The early signing period in college basketball runs from Nov. 9-16.  The regular signing period is April 12 - May 17, 2017.

The Cougars open the season Friday at home against Montana State. The game is the first of a WSU men's-women's doubleheader -- the Cougar men tip off at 4 p.m. (Pac-12 Network) while the women begin at 7 p.m.
