What They're Saying: Head of the Pac-12 Edition

IT'S OFFICIAL: The Cougs are Jon Snow, leaders of the North after coming back from the dead. Following Saturday's rout of Cal, the Cougars are one game away from matching the record of nonstop excellence set by crimson legends Mel Hein, Turk Edwards and Babe Hollingbery in 1930. From Gabe Marks to rockin' Roy Manning to fans and pundits across the land, it seems like everyone has something great to say about the current kings of the north.

"From where I sit, they’re the best o-line in the Pac-12 -- Quint Kessenich, ESPN sideline reporter

"Across the Cascade Mountains, a team from California came north and handed an Evergreen State school its first loss of the season. But nobody was spoiling the party in Pullman.” -- The Lewiston Tribune

"Washington State sure looked the part of the team that is streaking and now leading the Pac-12 North Division after Washington’s loss to USC. The announcement of that score that got one of the largest first-half cheers, but the Cougars’ play got plenty of ovations, too.” -- Rusty Simmons, San Francisco Chronicle

"Think about this: Washington State is 8-2 overall, 7-0 in the Pac-12 North. The Cougars have won eight consecutive games, the first time that’s happened since 1930. Yes, 1930. They are also just eight points from being 10-0 and smack dab in the middle of the College Football Playoff hunt." -- Vince Grippi, The Spokesman-Review

"A big fourth-down stop from sophomore corner Darrien Molton and a game-changing interception from junior linebacker Nate DeRider highlighted the night for the Coug D. Heck, if you take away a few dozen Bear Raid screen passes, the scoreboard and the stat sheet would look drastically different in favor for Wazzu." -- Skyler Cracraft, Cougfan.com

"The Cougars control their own destiny and can clinch the Pac-12 North by winning their final two regular season games - against No. 16 Colorado and No. 4 Washington.” -- Nick Geranios, The Associated Press

"This is probably so heart-wrenching for Coach Leach that we have such good balance right now.” -- WSU receiver Gabe Marks

"Regardless of how the rest of the season unfolds, Gabe Marks and River Cracraft will go down in the record books as the best receiving tandem to ever suit up for Washington State.” — Stefanie Loh, The Seattle Times

”Most promising for the Cougars: The team is playing its best football of the year in critical November games with a lot on the line.” -- Jacob Thorpe, The Spokesman-Review

"The secondary, tired and outmanned, couldn’t stop Luke Falk even while dropping eight or nine men back in coverage.” -- Andrew Miller, CaliforniaGoldenBlogs

"Since that shootout in the Palouse two years ago, the Bears are 7-15 in conference play. The Cougars are 14-8.” -- Jon Wilner, The Mercury News

"First place at the start of November sounds good, but I'd like first place at the end of November.” -- WSU center Riley Sorenson

"You know I haven't cut it in awhile, but maybe there's something to it." -- Luke Falk on if he's growing a playoff beard

"Washington State is a Pac-12-best 13-2 over its last 15 conference games dating back to last season." -- Lindy Sports

"The Cougars have ripped off eight straight wins and sit alone atop the Pac-12 North standings. No team has gone undefeated in conference play since the league expanded. Following Washington’s loss to USC, the Cougars carry the banner. After dispatching Cal 56-21 Saturday, a showdown in Boulder looms next week against Colorado. Then the much-ballyhooed Apple Cup." -- Kevin Gemmell, ESPN.com
