A short Apple Cup week schedule for Cougs still means they use Sunday night to rest up

THE COUGS HAVE a short week on tap -- with Thanksgiving on Thursday and the Apple Cup on Friday. But Mike Leach isn’t deviating much from the routine he’s established in the latter half of the season at Washington State.

The Cougs will not practice on Sunday, as has been the case the last several weeks, the assumption being it's more important to rest the Cougar bodies than it is to put them through their paces on the Sunday night practice field.

The Cougars will practice on Monday, however, something they don’t normally do – that’s usually an off day on the WSU schedule with a Saturday game on tap.

With the Apple Cup set to kick off Friday, the Cougs will practice Monday night, and then Tuesday and Wednesday in the afternoon (a few hours earlier than normal) before holding a walk through on Thanksgiving.

Washington State football will hold its weekly press conference Monday afternoon but Leach will be the only one meeting with the media. Normally WSU selects three student-athletes to meet with the media Mondays (the only media availability for players before the game) but WSU SID said Sunday night there will be no student-athlete availability this week before the Apple Cup.

The Apple Cup is scheduled for a 12:30 pm kickoff on Fox.

Washington State opened as a 6-point underdog.

The Cougs are ranked No. 23 in both the Coaches and AP polls.  The Huskies are ranked No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
