CFC TV: Husky D will be the best the Cougs have faced this season, says WSU running backs coach Jim Mastro

PULLMAN – Jim Mastro is old school. And old school coaches don’t dish out bulletin board material. Washington State’s running backs coach praised the UW defense the Cougars will face on Friday (12:30 pm, Fox), saying it’s the best Wazzu has faced all season.

"They're really good and to me, they’re the best defense we’ve played -- it’s really not even really close,” said Mastro.  “Colorado is a good defense too, not going to take anything away from them … but in my opinion Washington is kind of a cut above.”

It’s the biggest game of the year, the practice times are different this week and there’s some talk there could be a little rain-snow mix on Friday.  But Mastro reiterated what Mike Leach has been saying this week: nothing really changes, whether that's Wazzu's preparation or the role his three running backs will play in the game: Jamal Morrow, Gerard Wicks and James Williams

"We do what we do, it's not going to change. As far as those guys' role - it's always a big role in this offense, and they have to produce. And they're going to get touches one way or another, and they have to make sure they take advantage out of those touches." Mastro said.

Mastro also shared his favorite Apple Cup memory. Here's the video clip.
