Holiday Bowl: How they scored

SAN DIEGO - Minnesota used a pair of touchdowns in the second half to earn a Holiday Bowl win over Washington State by a final of 17-12. The Gopher defense came up big after allowing Wazzu to march down the field on their first possession. That drive set the tone for WSU's offensive night as they were forced to settle for a field goal. In a game predicted to be a high scoring affair, here's the way it actually played out.

First Quarter

WSU 3 - Minn 0 at the 6:23 Erik Powell made a 26-yard field goal

  Key play: On third and four at Minn 26 Luke Falk completed a six-yard pass to Tavares Martin, Jr. 

Second Quarter

WSU 3 - Minn 3 at the 7:26 Emmitt Carpenter converted a 43-yard FG

  Key play: On second and eleven from the WSU 41, Mitch Leidner carried for eleven yards

WSU 6 - Minn 3 at the :33 mark on Powell 41-yard FG

  Key play: On third and eight from Minn 36, Falk tosses a 24-yard completion to Robert Lewis

Third Quarter

WSU 6 - Minn 10 at the 5:22 mark Mitch Leidner 13-yard TD pass to Shannon Brooks (Carpenter PAT)

  Key play: On second and 14 on WSU 33, Leidner completed a 18-yard pass to Drew Wolitarsky

Fourth Quarter

WSU 6 - Minn 17 at the 2:06 mark on a seven-yard TD run by Rodney Smith (Carpenter PAT)

  Key play: INT by Adekunle Ayinde to set up Minn on the WSU 31

WSU 12 - Minn 17 at the :19 mark on an eight-yard TD pass from Falk to Kyle Sweet (two-point conversion failed)

  Key play: On third and six from the WSU 25, Falk connected with Sweet for 11-yards and a first down
