New Year means another year is added to contract of WSU head coach Mike Leach

AS THE CALENDAR turns to 2017, that also means another year is added to Mike Leach's contract at Washington State.

The rollover clause in Leach's contract adds a year after Dec. 31, so the head coach of the Cougars will have a perpetual five-year deal (unless Bill Moos or Leach notifies the other in writing before the end of the year they wish to opt out).

WSU hasn't made an official announcement on this year's extension but it's a foregone conclusion that Leach's contract will now run through Dec. 31, 2021. Moos indicated as much on his radio show earlier this year.

Moos has often mentioned over the years the importance, especially at this time of the year in recruiting, that Leach has longevity in his contract.

Leach's annual compensation package was $2.95 million in 2016.  He received a $75,000 bonus for getting the Cougs to a bowl game this season.

According to, the cost of living is 39.4 percent more expensive in Los Angeles than in Pullman, with housing 79 percent more expensive in LA than Pullman.
