Previewing the final official visit weekend of 2017 recruiting cycle for Mike Leach and the Cougars

THE FINAL official visit weekend of the 2017 recruiting cycle has arrived at Washington State. After talking to recruits, plus prep and junior college coaches, here’s our list of who is coming to dinner.

The final weekend before Signing Day under Mike Leach is always used to trip in some of the preferred walk on targets. At press time, from what we’ve been able to glean from recruits and sources, there are six official visitors coming to town this weekend, three of them preferred walk on-types.

There is one known uncommitted visitor with a WSU offer – 3-star OT prospect Jonathan Nathaniel (pictured above) out of Chandler, Arizona. In talking to Nathaniel earlier this week, he seemed a strong lean to WSU from this chair. If he were to go crimson, that would give WSU five OL commits in its class (and with at least three others still in play in Mo Unutoa, Jaxson Kirkland and former WSU pledge Quazzel White).

Two of the visitors are committed to WSU: 4-star OL Dontae Powell and 2-star LB Willie Taylor.  Powell was, and is, a big get for the Cougs from this chair. Utah and Oregon have both made late runs trying to pry him loose from the Cougs but it looks to have worked out well for Wazzu that he’s taking his official to Pullman on the last weekend before Signing Day.  Taylor, out of Georgia, just went crimson on Sunday.

The three preferred walk ons known to be in town this weekend:  QB John Bledsoe, LS Matthew Allen and K Ryan Henderson. CF.C talked to Drew Bledsoe not long ago and the John sounds like the perfect fit for Leach’s offense -- and Allen had hugely impressed Drew (click here).  Meanwhile, Henderson has a huge leg, having booted field goals of 56, 54 and 50 yards his senior season.

Here’s the known visitors list:

OL Jonathan Nathaniel
LB Willie Taylor

LS Matthew Allen

It’s worth noting that by the time this last weekend rolls around, WSU has already brought in the majority of its targets on officially visits. Still, in trying to read the tea leaves, our view is that the odds remain favorable for a signing day surprise. As always when it comes to visit weekends, plans can change and the CF.C visitor list could see additional movement -- we’ll let you know on the Luxury Suites if we unearth any additional nuggets. CF.C recruiting guru Braulio Perez continues to work the phone lines, and he’ll be reaching out to the visitors Sunday after their visits have come to a close.

For the last time this recruiting cycle when it comes to WSU visit weekends, let’s roll tape.
